Creating energy from waste involves obtaining energy, in the form of heat or electricity, from incinerating a waste source. Most waste-to-energy processes either create energy through combustion, or create a combustible fuel resource. One method converts solid waste products into energy sources through incineration. Basically trash and other solid waste products are taken to a facility where they are incinerated. The incineration process produces heat. The heat is then used as energy to drive turbines or engines. Automobile owners are also turning to this method of fuel for their vehicles.
Waste-to-energy is believed to be the future of energy production. Humans produce millions of tons of biomass (trash) each year. All of this waste has to go somewhere. This waste usually ends up in landfills around the country. Each community has one. The problem with landfills is that as the waste decomposes, pollutants are released into the soil and eventually reach drinking water. Another problem with landfills is that the waste in them takes thousands of years to break down. Having the ability to take solid waste and use it for something that will benefit the human race, is a wonderful accomplishment. This technology does not rely on an energy source that can be depleted.
